Assistant Director, Development & Signature Events

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) seeks to hire a highly motivated and results- oriented fundraising, event design and management professional to join the Development & Events Team.

The individual oversees fundraising and donor engagement efforts for the Foundation’s flagship events, working closely with a dynamic team and experiencing the inner-workings of a premier nonprofit organization firsthand.

Position responsibilities include helping to organize BCRF’s Signature Fundraising Events, including the Hot Pink Party and October Symposium & Awards Luncheon. This individual will develop and execute the fundraising strategy for Signature Events, including leadership coordination, major donor stewardship and sponsorship integration. In tandem, their proficiency in written and visual communication will help shape every aspect of the donor experience. This position reports to the Managing Director, Development & Signature Events.

Primary Responsibilities:

This is a lead role in the planning and execution of fundraising events and special projects, which currently include black-tie fundraisers, luncheons and educational symposiums, cultivation events and other strategic organizational event opportunities.

  • Oversee fundraising efforts for Signature Events, including prospect identification, donor outreach, cultivation, and ongoing stewardship. Help design and shepherd a high-touch donor engagement experience as it relates to Signature Events.
    • Conceptualize and help implement new fundraising tools, event experiences, and opportunities for donor and sponsor cultivation, as well as strategies to increase the retention of existing relationships.
    • Strategize and pull complex compound database queries to produce master mail house lists, in collaboration with the database team and other departments.
  • Manage the planning and execution of event management tasks such as: leadership coordination, email marketing, communication plans and execution, event timelines, sponsor outreach and integration, donor recognition, seating, financial reporting, liaising with vendors, post-event analysis, volunteer management, and gratitude work.
    • Manage the acquisition, retention, training and delivery of volunteers at Signature Events.
    • Responsible for vendor liaison and strategy relating to event technology, including microsites, point of sale and on-site/digital giving platforms.
    • Manage mail house relationships for all Signature Event mailings.
    • Oversee the financial processing and acknowledgment of in-kind Signature Event donors.
  • Communications and design work o Collaborate on the development of sponsorship materials and liaise with leading event sponsors prior to, during, and after an event.
    • Collaborate on the design of all event components including printed, digital, and experiential.
    • Design, and/or oversee the design of important major donor communications, including Development & Events team presentations for the Advisory Board and Board meetings.
    • Supplement the work of external design vendors with the creation and in-house editing of infographics and other designed visuals for internal and external communication across the Development team at large.
  • Continuously identify opportunities, tools, processes, and systems to streamline workloads of the Signature Events team, helping achieve and exceed goals more efficiently and effectively.

This role represents BCRF in a professional and polished manner when communicating with major donors, vendor partners, and the Foundation’s constituency. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, positive, a team player, confident, articulate, and very professional – all the while warm and personable. This position requires a high level of discernment and professionalism at all times.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated abilities to:

  • Serve as a compelling BCRF representative when working directly with major donors, voluntary leadership, and the Foundation’s constituency.
  • Exercise a meticulous eye for proofreading event-related correspondence and publications.
  • Bring a high level of professionalism and white-glove service to all projects.
  • Exert judgment, diplomacy and strategic decision-making when working with the Foundation’s event leadership, with donors, and on-site during events.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively, juggle numerous projects and responsibilities simultaneously, and independently manage projects from start to finish.
  • Think strategically and broadly to deliver results across the entire event planning and fundraising spectrum, with an eye for both detail and the big picture.
  • Build and sustain fruitful relationships with a wide range of constituents, ensuring that all receive the highest quality of service and personalized attention.
  • Communicate effectively, graciously, and authentically, both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain the integrity of the organization, always staying focused on the mission.
  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion, and escalation where necessary.
  • Be resourceful.
  • Bring a positive can-do attitude, team spirit, and sense of humor.
Experience & Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Four to six years’ experience in fundraising and non-profit event management.
  • Demonstrated portfolio of professional writing experience.
  • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ideal: Minimum five years’ experience in donor CRM systems (Raiser’s Edge preferred).

Physical and Other Requirements:

  • May require travel, which may require walking distances, lifting, and carrying luggage and boxes, and prolonged periods of sitting in tight quarters.
  • Significant computer work, which may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (> 15 lbs.), bending, pulling, and occasional lifting, carrying, and/or moving boxes, files, etc., some of which could be heavy or require the use of carts.
