The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is looking for a database professional to join the Development team as its Manager, Database & Donor Analytics. This person will be a key member of the Database & Donors Services unit of the Development team, providing critical support of BCRF’s fundraising efforts.

BCRF’s approach to data management and donor analytics is rooted in providing the highest quality donor experience for our supporters. The Manager, Database & Donor Analytics plays an important role in advancing BCRF’s capacity for donor analytics with an emphasis on major giving by promoting the timely and accurate handling of donor data.

The Manager will be involved in:

  • Analyzing donor behavior
  • Maintaining the hygiene of Raiser’s Edge, the Foundation’s database
  • Assisting with imports and exports to/from the Raiser’s Edge database
  • Collaborating on donor analytics and data-driven fundraising strategies
  • Digitizing donor records

Responsibilities

Data Management and Analysis:

  • Update and maintain a comprehensive Database Policies and Procedures Manual
  • Inform the design of BCRF’s donor analytics; assist in implementing best practices for audience segmentation
  • Analyze the performance of appeals and campaigns to help drive future fundraising direction and appropriate audience segmentation
  • Assist in generating strategic queries and mailing lists to improve donor response
  • Generate donor lists and reports (recurring and ad hoc) for the Development team, executive leadership, the Board, and other stakeholders

Data Processing and Tracking:

  • Assist in the processing and recording of incoming online donations and pledges in Raiser’s Edge
  • Manage the ongoing pledge tracking and gift fulfilment for BCRF’s annual fund and targeted initiatives
  • Assist in portfolio management and appropriate major gifts tracking in Raiser’s Edge in collaboration with the Director of Development and Senior Director, Philanthropy & Major Gifts
  • Participate in offline data processing as needed
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements to Development reporting, and assist in implementation as needed

Data Hygiene:

  • Maintain BCRF’s high standard of database hygiene
  • Manage the ongoing digitization of donor records to ensure quality and integrity of data  
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director, Database Management & Donor Services, handle the ongoing transfer of data between Raiser’s Edge and other databases within the organization

Development:

  • Manage and track the completion of employee matching gift verifications
  • Process applications for federal and state workplace giving campaign
  • Provide administrative support to the Development team as necessary

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Manager, Database & Donor Analytics position enjoys working with data and thinking about how to leverage data to support decision-making. Their natural curiosity combined with Development experience will drive innovation in BCRF’s donor analytics and identify opportunities to improve data management. The ideal candidate excels in advancing project work independently while demonstrating a team spirit and willingness to pitch in as needed during periods of high activity.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated proficiency in:

  • Raiser’s Edge (NXT preferred) functions that serve data analysis such as queries, list management, global updates, and reporting; 3-4 years of experience required
  • An understanding of current and emerging trends in fundraising and philanthropy, particularly with respect to individual and major gifts, and annual fund fundraising principles
  • Experience with online donation software, and Omatic products a plus
  • Best practices for strong data hygiene
  • Microsoft Office Suite, with noted strength in Excel (pivot tables, fill function, formatting, reporting, etc.)

  • Working independently as well as part of a team in a highly collaborative environment
  • Exercising sound judgment within established policies and procedures
  • Effective verbal/written communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • A passion for fundraising operations, motivation to succeed and strong drive for continual improvement

Experience & Education

  • 3-4 years of experience in a non-profit organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree

Physical and Other Requirements

  • Significant computer work, which may require repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands
  • Some participation in events beyond normal office hours, which are scheduled in advance
