ABOUT BCRF

Breast cancer is a complex disease with no simple solution. Every diagnosis is unique and puts lives at risk. We must stop breast cancer in its tracks, and research is the answer.

Founded in 1993 by Evelyn H. Lauder, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world. We invest in a wide range of research—from prevention, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and metastasis—because each area of investigation informs another, propelling us toward the solutions we urgently need.

We convene and connect the best minds in science—giving them the opportunity to pursue their most innovative ideas. Our combination of investment and cross-disciplinary collaboration accelerates the entire field and builds momentum for new discoveries. BCRF-funded investigators have been behind every major breakthrough in breast cancer research, and the field is moving faster than ever. We can’t stop now.

With you, and the entire BCRF community, we are fueling the world’s most promising research. Join us—together, we will bring the end of breast cancer into focus. Learn more and get involved at BCRF.org.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation’s major gifts program attracts philanthropic gifts at the highest levels and seeks new opportunities to drive significant revenue to fund research at institutions nationally and internationally. While the Director of Philanthropy and Major Gifts is on maternity leave, BCRF seeks to hire a Philanthropy Officer to provide comprehensive coverage from June through October 2022 with possibility to be longer.

This is an ideal job for a motivated, self-starter with some development experience who wants to learn, grow, and make an immediate impact in all aspects of fundraising (from annual fund and leadership gifts to major and principal gifts, to event gifts; from cultivation and solicitation, to stewardship) at a leading foundation in a collaborative, supportive environment with colleagues willing to teach and mentor.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU’LL DO:

1. Portfolio Management

  • In coordination with the Senior Director, field, as appropriate, any donor inquiries or other outreach from the Director’s high-value portfolio of 60+ managed donors while on leave.
  • Make cultivation and stewardship touches as needed, including personal outreach to invite donors to attend virtual science panels or other BCRF events.
  • Maintain donor records in the Raiser’s Edge (RE)/NXT database, including revenue projections and asks closed.
  • Support work for any major gift or principal gift asks in progress.
  • Ensure timely submission of select foundation grant reports and proposals.

2. Prospect Research and Development

  • Review reports of gifts received for potential major gift or midlevel prospects, and enter corresponding action steps into RE/NXT.
  • Make stewardship calls and send stewardship emails or mail to identified prospects to encourage a deeper relationship between the donor and BCRF.
  • Conduct research on identified prospects and track in RE/NXT, including for select event donors.
  • Solicit and thank select donors at the close and start of the fiscal year.

3. Administrative
