Currently on his ninth multi-state ride, Al Reszel is biking across the country to raise money for breast cancer research in support of his wife’s personal journey with the disease.
Al Reszel is no stranger to long distances. Together with his wife, Terry, Al is embarking on a 4,000-mile cycling trip from Santa Monica Pier to New York City. Their annual ride, Pink Pedals 4 A Cure, reflects the Reszel family’s enduring commitment to raising both funds and awareness for breast cancer research—a cause deeply woven into their own story.

What began as a personal tribute has grown into a meaningful, annual effort with lasting impact. Since launching Pink Pedals 4 A Cure in 2016, Al and Terry have cycled more than 28,000 miles and raised over $70,000 to support research focused on improving outcomes for those diagnosed with breast cancer.Their dedication stems from Terry’s own diagnosis in 2010. In the years since, Al has channeled his passion for cycling into a powerful way to give back, while Terry remains an essential part of the journey—coordinating logistics, offering steady support, and connecting with people they meet along the way.Through their travels, they’ve met countless individuals and families whose lives have been touched by breast cancer, reinforcing the urgency of advancing research and care.“Terry and our family deeply understand the impact breast cancer makes on the individual and the entire family,” Al shares. “We hope that through research, when someone receives the call that they have been diagnosed with breast cancer, they will know that there are options and treatments to support them, and possibly a cure.”This year’s route holds special meaning. Al and Terry followed a similar path during their third Pink Pedals 4 A Cure ride in 2018, making this journey both familiar and deeply personal.“The same as every ride, we look forward to the opportunity to speak with people across the country about the successes and research strides the Breast Cancer Research Foundation is making every day,” Terry says. “On a personal note, we are looking forward to traveling through areas and cities we previously enjoyed and, in some cases, reconnecting with people that we met on our earlier ride that we have kept in contact with.”For Al and Terry, this experience is about far more than reaching New York City. It’s about honoring survivors and thrivers, building meaningful connections, supporting future breakthroughs, and making every mile truly count.
