Genetic mutation

A genetic mutation is a change to a cell’s genetic information. Genetic mutations are not always harmful, and they can be inherited (passed down from a person’s parents) or the result of environmental influences. Certain inherited genetic mutations, such as some mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, are associated with a significantly higher risk of breast cancer.
