For 10 years, kids, families, businesses, and communities across the country have been turning pink lemonade into hope.
When Kim Rhodes received a stage two breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, her daughter, Brynne, knew she wanted to do something to make a positive impact. One year later, at just 7 years old, Brynne raised $100 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) in honor of her mom through her first pink lemonade stand.
Since 2016, Brynne has been encouraging kids to set up pink lemonade stands in their communities to support breast cancer research through BCRF. She wanted to show other kids that you’re never too young to make an impact. What began as one lemonade stand has grown into a nationwide movement, now called the Pink Lemonade Stand Challenge (PLSC).
Over the past decade, the PLSC has raised more than $430,000 for lifesaving breast cancer research—all thanks to the incredible generosity of children and families hosting stands in their neighborhoods, college students inspiring their campuses to give back, companies facilitating opportunities for their customers and employees to participate, and countless supporters who have helped spread the mission.
Along the way, the PLSC has ignited meaningful community moments. Through collaborations with brands like Kendra Scott, Macy’s, and vineyard vines, they have hosted pink lemonade stands in retail stores across the country. They’ve tapped into the spirit of football season with pink lemonade stands outside of NFL stadiums for teams including the Pittsburgh Steelers, the New England Patriots, and the Los Angeles Rams. And their incredible volunteers throughout the country have been featured on major national and local news outlets, including the TODAY show.
“I began making a stand to honor my aunts and late great grandmother,” said PLSC intern Addison Doherty, who has been hosting pink lemonade stands since 2023. “When I found PLSC online, it was such an accessible way to take a topic that can be hard to speak about and make it more lighthearted. And seeing people so touched by what we do reminds me of how important our work is.”
As PLSC celebrates its 10th anniversary, it’s not just marking a milestone—it’s recognizing every person who has hosted a stand, donated, volunteered, or shared the mission. Every cup of lemonade and each donation to BCRF has helped move breast cancer research forward and brought us closer to a future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease.
“Breast cancer continues to affect millions of families, which is why supporting research is more important than ever. Every breakthrough begins with research, and every donation brings us one step closer to better treatments, earlier detection, and ultimately, a cure.” Brynne said. “I hope people will continue to join us because, together, we will #BeTheEnd of breast cancer.”
With 10 years of making a difference together, there’s never been a better time to take the challenge. Whether you’re hosting your first stand or your 10th, every fundraiser helps build on a decade of passion and progress.
Summer is the perfect time to host a pink lemonade stand! Here are four steps to get started:
- Organize a pink lemonade stand and pledge to donate the money you raise to BCRF.
- After your stand is finished and you’ve counted the money raised, donate it through PLSC’s fundraiser. Create your own PLSC fundraising page online by joining the team fundraiser and donate the money raised directly to your page. To cover cash donations, you can use a credit or debit card for the total amount. PLSC also accepts Venmo donations at @pinklemonadestandchallenge.
- Share photos and videos of your stand on social media using #MakeAStand and #TurnItPink, and tag @pinklemonadestandchallenge on Instagram and Facebook and @pinklemonadestand on TikTok.
