A breast MRI is a screening tool used to investigate abnormal mammogram findings. In an MRI, which stands for magnetic resonance imaging, a series of images is produced using radio waves and magnets. A computer then takes those pictures to make a 3D image. A dye may be injected into your arm beforehand to make abnormal tissue more visible.
This procedure may also be recommended by your doctor if you are at high risk for breast cancer, have dense breasts, are pregnant and experiencing what may be breast cancer symptoms, or have already been diagnosed with breast cancer.
