Broadway legends are reuniting for the third year in a row to celebrate The Janice Jam: Broadway For Breast Cancer event benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), on May 5 at Sony Hall in New York City. All of the net proceeds from this jam-packed event will support metastatic breast cancer (MBC) research through BCRF.
Broadway performer Matt DeAngelis (Swept Away, Waitress) founded The Janice Jam after losing his mother, Janice, to metastatic breast cancer in 2022. To honor her and all those affected by this disease, DeAngelis created a concert fundraiser to raise funds for breast cancer research. With generous help from friends, family, and his Broadway industry colleagues, he is culling another evening that will have guests singing, dancing, and helping bring funding to this very special and personal cause.
“Here we are. Year three, and this incredible event continues to grow and thrive thanks to the countless supporters who come out to these events and celebrate the community and my mother’s legacy,” DeAngelis said. “We continue to honor those affected with this disease, both past and present.”
Among the Broadway performers joining the event are breast cancer thrivers Krysta Rodriguez, Sarrah Strimel Bentley, and Kara Lindsay. Rodriguez will receive the first-ever “Fighting Flamingo Award” to commemorate her breast cancer journey and support for research.
The lineup of performers is scheduled to include Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Tony Award winners John Gallagher Jr. (Swept Away) and Lauren Patten (Jagged Little Pill), Tony Award nominees Jenn Colella (Suffs), Jeremy Jordan (Floyd Collins), and Stark Sands (Swept Away), and more. Matt DeAngelis and his wife, Christine Dwyer, will also perform.
BCRF is honored to be the event’s beneficiary once again and is grateful for the Broadway community’s commitment to ending breast cancer. BCRF remains the highest-rated breast cancer research organization in the country and funds from this event will support scientists at leading academic and medical institutions around the world who are advancing our understanding of MBC, finding new therapies for patients, and more. The Janice Jam raised over $50,000 for BCRF in 2024 and is on track to surpass that amount already this year.
“By supporting BCRF, the largest private funder of metastatic breast cancer research worldwide, The Janice Jam is driving change to improve outcomes and save lives,” BCRF Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Dorraya El-Ashry said. “Metastatic breast cancer is an urgent priority for BCRF as the cause of virtually all breast cancer deaths. This year alone, BCRF is dedicating about half of its total investment—$32.8 million across 86 projects—to metastatic breast cancer research. We are committed to accelerating treatments that extend lives and ultimately curing MBC for all women.”
The Janice Jam is executive produced by DeAngelis and Bryan Campione (Rock ‘N Roll Debauchery), with Kim Blair, Maxwell Haddad and Amber Coates (Ember Productions), Larkin Bogan (Wicked), Tami Eagle Bowling, Katie Michelle Stahl, and PJ Adzima (The Book of Mormon/Stage Time). Event production and publicity, among other items, is made possible thanks to the incredible efforts by a diverse group of talented and driven volunteers, some of whom are living with metastatic breast cancer.
“I am grateful for people like Matt and the incredible Broadway community who recognize that research is the only way to end deaths from breast cancer and give patients more time with their loved ones,” Bowling, a MBC thriver, said. “The positive energy that fills the room at this event gives me hope.”
