Breast Cancer Research Foundation Kicks Off Awareness Month at Grand Central

| October 5, 2026

Thousands joined the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at Grand Central’s Vanderbilt Hall to highlight the importance of research. The event featured Broadway and ballet performances, opportunities to donate, and more.

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) marked the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month at Grand Central Station’s Vanderbilt Hall. From 7:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m., the Foundation transformed the space into an interactive experience for commuters to learn more about the impact of breast cancer research.

Free and open to the public, the event engaged thousands of individuals passing through Grand Central Station over the course of the day. Different “labs,” sponsored by BCRF’s corporate partners, showcased the organization’s work across prevention, early detection, survivorship, and other areas of research. Attendees had the opportunity to learn more about BCRF’s initiatives, participate in activities, and receive giveaways.

“For us, this month is about so much more than awareness. It’s about research,” said BCRF President and CEO Donna McKay, in her remarks to the crowd. As the largest private funder of breast cancer research in the world, BCRF is awarding over $75 million in annual grants to more than 280 scientists institutions around the globe.

The event also featured performances by Broadway’s Matt DeAngelis (Swept Away, HAIR, Waitress) and Christine Dwyer (Wicked, RENT, Waitress), founders of The Janice Jam, Carrie St. Louis (Just In Time, Wicked, Kinky Boots), and the Onco-Ballet™ Foundation.

“Progress is coming faster than ever, but we cannot afford to lose momentum,” McKay emphasized. “What we do together this October and all year long directly impacts the research we can fund and the progress we can make.”
