Host of Palm Beach Hot Pink Luncheon & Symposium Talks Research

By BCRF | January 29, 2015

CBS 12 News Anchor Liz Quirantes chats with BCRF

On Thursday, February 5th, leaders in breast cancer research will gather at The Breakers Palm Beach to host a dynamic luncheon conversation focused on “The Next Step in Eliminating Breast Cancer.” BCRF’s Scientific Director Dr. Larry Norton and Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board Dr. Clifford Hudis will lead the discussion with fellow BCRF investigators Drs. Lisa Carey, Elizabeth Comen and Andrea Richardson.

This year, BCRF is proud to welcome special guest hosts Liz Quirantes of CBS 12 and Josh Cohen of ESPN. Quirantes is not only the leading lady of nightly news in Palm Beach; she is also a dedicated philanthropist. We had the chance to learn more about what Quirantes is most looking forward to during the Symposium & Luncheon and why she supports BCRF’s mission to support critical research.

You have been a steadfast supporter in raising funds for breast cancer research and awareness for over a decade. What inspired you to support breast cancer research and early detection?

My first inspiration to get involved in breast cancer awareness was my mother-in-law Suzy, who was diagnosed with breast cancer more than 25 years ago.  My second inspiration is one of my best friends Michele, who was diagnosed with breast cancer more than 5 years ago.  Both of them are incredibly brave, strong women and survivors.

In your opinion, what sets BCRF apart from other breast cancer organizations?

While every breast cancer organization I’ve been involved with has its own mission that helps with awareness or patient services, BCRF is different because it solely focuses on preventing and curing breast cancer through research.  The sheer amount of money that has been raised by BCRF and put into research is amazing.

Why do you think breast cancer research and awareness outreach is important in the Palm Beach community?

Research and awareness are important in this area because we have so many incredible facilities and doctors dedicated to preventing and treating breast cancer.  Having the very latest information is crucial for them.  I also feel that we have an underserved population that needs more education when it comes to breast cancer.

What are you most looking forward to as host of the Palm Beach Hot Pink Symposium & Luncheon?

While I know the fashion show will be a highlight, the journalist in me is looking forward to the question-and-answer discussion with the BCRF scientists and investigators.  I always want the latest information.
