Tumor suppressor gene

The normal function of a tumor suppressor gene is to block processes that promote cell growth and cancer development. Mutations (changes) to tumor suppressor genes can alter the genes’ normal functions and may lead to cell proliferation (a rapid increase in the number of cells) and tumor development.
