Solán de Cabras water is born in a remote spring in an isolated mountainous region of Cuenca, Spain. This spring has been recognized over the centuries by Royal Decree as a treasured resource by the Spanish Monarchy. Rainwater and snow in their purest forms descend from the sky upon the mountains filtering through 7 layers of minerals and rock.
Legend has it that the name Solán de Cabras comes from a goat herder who used to take his animals to a sunny meadow near the spring. He noticed that his ailing goats were “cured” by drinking the water that bubbled out of the spring.
The Romans revered this water and several centuries later, in 1775, King Carlos III ordered the construction of the Solán de Cabras Baths to accommodate the pilgrims who were coming from all over Spain seeking cures for a multitude of ailments.
In 1787, Dr. Forner studied the beneficial properties of Solán de Cabras and wrote: ‘that when the learned men of the era considered the sick incurable and abandoned them to their fate, they travelled to Solán de Cabras in search of a cure’.
King Carlos IV, in 1790, ultimately declared them to be Waters of Public Interest and the spring to be a Royal Site.
Today, Solán de Cabras natural mineral water is recognized for its purity and the unique site of its spring.
